We Were Liars: Get Beyond the Hype
Multiple reviewers said, “the less you know the better it will be.”
And so I went in blind.
Ann Kingman says, “not just one of the best YA books I’ve read this year, but one of the best books I read this year in any genre.”
And I generally love the stuff that the Books on the Nightstand hosts recommend.
But honestly, this book did not live up to the hype for me. I wanted to love it so much more, but I just could not.
When I finished the book, I went back and dipped in at a few random spots to try to re-engage with the story, but it helped little.
The book was well written and moderately charming, but the payoff was not worth the hype. Three stars for this one.
Go and read it and tell me what you think.
I’m on the fence with this. Folks with regular YA reading are highly engaged with this. John Green lauded it on Twitter. Yet, I have my hesitations. Thanks for your review; I may skip this one for now.
